Dr. John E.
Lewis at the University of Miami School of Medicine will be the principal
investigator of an efficacy study on Dr. Young's Greens/prime pH among type I
and II diabetics. The protocol has been written and efforts to secure funding
for the study are underway. |
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy
of Dr. Young's Greens plus structured pH water supplement on glucose control in
diabetics. The primary outcome will be glucose control, as measured by HbA1c.
The design will be a 12-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled
trial Forty subjects will be enrolled in the study with no significant
cognitive, psychological, or physiological deficits that would preclude their
participation in the study.
The study will consist of two treatment
groups: (a) Dr. Young's Greens supplement, specifically touted to have
beneficial effects on diabetes morbidity and glucose control combined with Dr.
Young's structured pH water (at least a pH of 9.5); and (b) placebo.
Additionally, the study will examine the effect of Dr. Young's Greens
supplement and structured pH water on health, functional status, and quality of
life for diabetics.
Participants will be assessed at baseline, 6 weeks,
and 12 weeks with a battery of psychosocial and physiological measures. We will
assess weight, hip to waist ratio, body mass index, blood pressure, resting
heart rate, and blood work to include a complete metabolic profile, lipids,
liver function, c-reactive protein, and homocysteine. |
